Whew…another company launched. Another team built. From a light bulb to a functioning business. A napkin to a business plan and raising capital. Talking revenue models to opening bank accounts and preparing for SOX. From listening to the customer to…well….serving the customer. From an Idea to Implementation. i2i.
We have all heard the old adage: “Ideas are dime a dozen”. Its all in the implementation, the process and the outcome. Taking an idea to the market and monetizing it is not as simple as building a techology or a website, but it is also about building a good infrastructure, consistently listening to the market and the customer, making sure there’s enough money not just for working capital, but also for expansion and much, much more.
This week, we launched
Clean Green Guy™ out of
Artilient Labs. It has been a great journey not just for me, but also for the entire team. It started off with just an idea – how can we make sense of green! There has been a lot of activity in the United States over the past year in the clean and green space with the passage of the
ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act), record high rates of oil and a deepening recession hitting us and our portfolios. There has also been a growing sense of “doing good” for our children and children’s children. The number of deals happening CleanTech measured by the deals done in the Venture Capital industry also increased drastically in 2008. There is a lot of information our there available through various outlets and the emergence of buzz-words such as sustainability and triple bottom-line. There are a lot of entrepreneurs who want to join the emerging green economy and also would like to connect with sources of capital as well as service providers but no leading and easy to use platform for them to enable do deals and build businesses. The premise of the Clean Green Guy™ is quite simple: Make sense of green. And Help Build the Green Economy…one deal at a time.
Clean Green Guy™ is a product of Artilient Labs and uses the Labs methodology of smart execution, building good teams, using a team of mentors, and creating an organization and value system which can impact the triple-bottom line.
Over the next few weeks, I shall write about the challenges we faced on our way to launching the website for Clean Green Guy™ in Alpha mode, building the team, monetizing the business and accelerating growth while impacting the triple bottom-line. I shall also be talking about other businesses we launch out of Labs and give you insights and a real-time look into building concepts into companies and from Idea to Implementation.
It has been a fun and rewarding journey and I hope you join me in it. I also welcome you to post your comments and share your experiences with the entire community.

Ideas are dime a dozen. Its all about vetting out an idea and building a profitable company out of it while keeping the needs of the customer first and foremost in mind. Along the way, an entrepreneur will have to build a good team, raise capital, develop an organization, take the idea to the market while creating value for the company’s shareholders. It is also very important to have a triple-bottom line impact strategy for your company. The best of ideas can fail if not implemented correctly. In his log, Nikhil will log the journey of Idea-2-Implementation (i2i) and use Artilient Labs and its portfolio companies as a working example. Join him on this journey as he explores the various aspects of launching a new company and taking it to the market.
